Cherry Blossoms
To see the Washington DC cherry blossoms has been on my bucket list for ages. The plantings of the cherry trees originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship to the People of the United States from the People of Japan. Your trip to Washington has to be planned very carefully, since these famous Cherry Blossoms are said to only be in full bloom for 3 days of the year - so timing is everything! Until we got there we still thought that we had our timing spot on - until we realized (and saw) that due to the recent cold front over the Northeast we were a little early. To sum it up we went to Washington with a few goals in mind: 1) To walk from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial 2) For Hannah to see Barack Obama 3) To have cupcakes from the original Georgetown Cupcakes in Georgetown 4) To have Nando's! (Washington DC is the only place in the USA to have a Nando's) and 5) To see the Cherry Blossoms of course.
We left D.C. on the bus back to NYC with extreme pain in our legs from all the walking - we walked from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial to the Arlington Cementery (in Virginia!) to Georgetown and back to the Capitol again. And we left with just enough pictures for it to appear as if we saw the blossoms in full bloom. We also left laughing about the 30 minutes of complete silence while we had our faces in our Nando's peri-peri chicken burgers. And then there was the decision to never EVER live in a hostel again.
We left without seeing Barack Obama.
But boy did we have the time of our lives...?!!
